Kinesiology is a healing system that seeks to strengthen the body against any given stress. This stress could be from an allergen, a thought pattern, a trauma or any disturbance in the energy system that gives rise to symptoms within the body. It can be used to treat various symptoms of the body such as depression, panic attacks, period problems, menopause symptoms, migraines, allergies and digestive problems.
Kinesiology can be used to treat any condition and can be successfully used alongside any conventional treatment and any other complementary therapy. Indeed it can help speed up healing of any other treatment if used in conjunction with it. It uses muscle testing to identify why your body has started to produce the symptoms it has by applying light pressure to a muscle. It’s response is then monitored.
A blend of psychotherapy, CBT, essential oils and biochemical techniques are used to bring the body back into balance from disease by correcting the allergy, fear, pressure at work, hot flushes, etc. This then allows the brain to reset it’s incorrect programming that has given rise to the symptoms that you suffer from.
The History of Kinesiology
Originally the term ‘Kinesiology’ is used to describe a field of medicine concerned with the workings and movement of joints and muscles. But since the 1960’s, forms of pyschotherapy, nutrition and counselling have been added to give rise to a complete healing system .
The original work in Kinesiology was developed in the 1920’s by an orthopaedic surgeon named R.W. Lovett who developed a system for grading and testing the strength and tone of muscles.
In 1930 Frank Chapman and Terence Bennett observed that when they massaged tender areas on the body, not only did the areas stop being tender but the overall health of the patient improved as well.
Chapman thought that these areas were related to the lymph system and started to massage lymph points over the body, whilst Bennett found that by massaging specific points on the head this would lead to an increase of circulation and lymph flow throughout the body and in both cases the general health of the individual rose.
Lovett’s work was further added to by Henry and Florence Kendall in their book ‘Muscle testing and Function’ in the 1940’s.
Modern Kinesiology mostly developed in the 1960’s by an American chiropractor called George Goodheart when he realised that muscle weakness could be rectified and changed by massaging the origin and insertion of each muscle (the ends and the beginning of each muscle) in a technique called ‘The origin and insertion technique’.
He further recognised that particular symptoms were related to specific muscle weakness and that if he massaged or held the Chapman and Bennett reflex points, he could affect the response of muscles and cause them to strengthen.
Goodheart realised that by using these three methods of strengthening muscles (1. Massaging the origin and insertion of muscles. 2. Massaging Chapman points and 3.holding Bennett points) other health problems would improve or disappear.
Subsequently all the different branches of Kinesiology have developed from Goodheart’s work. But each branch of Kinesiology has it’s own distinct way of using muscle testing and healing people.
Health Kinesiology was developed in the 1970/80’s by Dr. Jimmy Scott in America. He brought together Goodheart’s work and his own training in psychology to create a healing system that could differentiate between different stresses and how to treat them.
All forms of Kinesiology use basic muscle testing skills to determine why a body is producing symptoms and what can be done to stop the symptoms.
What to expect from a Health Kinesiology treatment
When you first consult a practitioner a detailed medical form will be taken and discussed with you.
You remain fully clothed throughout the treatment and it can be done either lying down or in a chair.
Through muscle testing, particular stresses will be highlighted and corrected and it is not uncommon to fall asleep during treatment
What is muscle testing?
Muscle testing is a way of accessing your body’s own knowledge and needs by verbally asking questions and getting yes/no answers according to the response of the muscle. Normally the biceps muscle is used for muscle testing but other muscles can be used if problems are experienced with the arms.
If an answer to a question weakens the muscle and the practitioner can move the muscle in any direction, then the answer is NO, if the practitioner asks a question and they cannot move the muscle at all, we say this is a strong response and the answer is YES.
When muscle testing we are measuring the rate at which the brain is sending chemical messages to the muscle and back again. Some people have a slower response than others and a practitioner will take some time to acquaint themselves with your muscle responses.
How Kinesiology has helped others
“I loved my job but the sudden onset of panic attacks left me feeling incapable and unable to function and work properly – Kinesiology enabled me to stop the panic attacks, change the way I lived my life and gave me new confidence – it gave me my life back” Jane Edgar Cumbria.
“I had IBS and had a limited diet as I could not eat anything without it setting my IBS symptoms off. Josie helped identify what was the main allergen and corrected it. It was unusual to lie on the table with various allergens and biochemicals placed on my tummy but it worked. I now lead a normal life again, I can eat whatever I like and I am off all tablets with no symptoms whatsoever – I feel like a new man again.” Joe Rice Newcastle.
